Minimal profit businesses - we need them now

In England right now good old ' Southern Rail' is failing apart, at least 20% of service are delayed, many don't show up at all. As an Aussie over here i really can't believe how bad the rail system is. Sure the tubes go everywhere, but as an example. It costs more than Forty pound to go a similar distance from Ballarat to Melbourne, when back home it would cost around 9 bucks. Both are private companies, one just gives a good service.

When i was growing up, my dad worked for the SEC, the state electric company, he used to say every year prices went up with inflation. Now it's more like 10% a year. It makes me think there are certain industries that people just shouldn't profit from. If you want to make money, run a bar, a restaurant, make a game or movie. Don't run an essential service. It's getting out of hand, private prisons? private trains and things we need for our daily lives. I know people say a company can run more efficiently than a government department and that is true is most cases, but i feel things like the train, power, water, police, garbage, health, education aren't things people should be aiming to make money from.

I used to run my own ethical businesses. No sweatshop and that kind of thing. I thought this would help make the world a better place. Now i see that not only do we need businesses with good practices, We need some that decided that 10% profit is enough and focus more on the service, staff and expansion.

We live in a very different world than we once did. The rise in crowd funding has given us a chance. What i would like to see is consumer run businesses. Can you imagine if all of England commuters crowd funded and bought Southern Rail. They could run it on a low profit model. They could increase wages, lower ticket prices, make the service better and focus on making it more environmentally friendly. Shareholders would be system users, they would gain a small reward of money, share dividends, but the min reward would be good service and much cheaper travel, share holders could get free travel as part of investment.

Governments of the world will not stop selling their assets or privatizing. They seem to think this is the best idea they have ever had, Indeed most of these assets have already been sold. What is needed now is a new generation of capitalist and business owners, who want to run big companies and deliver big services, but will gain more satisfaction from having a great service and expanding and buying out competitors than by having a billion to give to people who don't use the companies service and care not for what it does or who it does it.

The modern company needs to have different goals, that simply making the most profit. Delivering a great service, but also employing a lot of people in good conditions at a good price. What would the world look like if the majority of companies judged their success, by the good they had done for the world and their staff and not their profit reports? Business is the most powerful force in the world, more than even getting elected and changing laws, changing the business culture is key. I would encourage you all, to find a problem and solve it. These business can be small to start, they can pay you a good wage and make money, but at a certain point the money comes back to growth and hiring people. Look to crowd funding for support, lets try and find a new way of doing business and start cleaning up this mess.

Brexit: it's done get over it

So i'm an Australian who is living in the UK. I'm married now to my wonderful English girl, but still have to leave for 6 months, come back and apply for a visa. Life has been made harder by visa hurdles, but it's what you expect, you want to live somewhere, you'll have to apply for a visa.

So Brexit has come and I couldn't vote but I supported Leave strongly. I have lots of reasons I supported it, but now i'm being bombed by social media and the news papers, all doom and gloom and telling me i'm an idiot who will ruin the country. 

The main point I want to make, and I am happy to outline why I supported leave, if anyone cares, is that the people voted and Leave won, now it's far from fair to try derail that, or make the people that voted for it feel like shit. The people I know who voted leave and their were lots of them, knew that things would suck in the short term. The money markets got it wrong, so the dollar has dropped, people are scared so the market gets effected, but in the long term it will be much better.

The major thing  find strange is that being a member of the EU is at it's heart undemocratic. An elected official makes a law, which is then overturned by the EU and that's ok? The future is now the countries to take. They can form bounds with anyone they want, deals and trade with the whole world and Europe. Please if you voted Remain, I know you're scared but try get over it, help the country move forward and for goodness sake don't try overturn an decision by the majority of the people just because you don't agree with it. Where will the world be when a bloody referendum gets overturned?

I guess i can start calling myself a writer now

So a few years ago now, it's a lot longer when i think about it than it feels. Four years, probably. I decided to write a novel. I'd always read heaps and heaps, and done short stories and always wanted to be a writer when i grew up, but by then i was around 29 and hadn't done F-all.

So i had this idea, it started off a bit different. Person sacrifice someone to demon, demon say no and opt to serve the victim, they get all their memories and talents. at first, seth was a kid and the wolvern was actually a young girl with animal teeth. I like this better.

So now i write this, my third book is out on Amazon. I'm spending my days living in the UK, and writing like mad for my next series. I've done book one and elbow deep in book two, should be good, all slave pirates, vikings and creepy sea monsters.

It's crazy, it doesn't feel like four years since i started, i now have very different issues. I worry about sales and sales, not can i actually do this and getting the words out. I want to thank anyone who has bought my book, and especialy those that got all three and actually care about old setho and friends. Don't worry book three is probably the best in the series.

will Playing Magic the Gathering make me a better writer?

So just recently i've started getting into MTG and i'm surprised given my level of love of this kind of thing i've never really thought of it before. I mean i love skyrim and fantasy games, i love fantasy TV and books so why not card games. Now i've yet to go to my first real world battle but will be this friday, but i've been smashing the 'Magic duels" game online.

So we'll see, will expose to all these creature, spells and gods make me a better writer? or will it just rob me of sleep and money for better cards. time will tell.

Take the Darkness - Needs reviews!!

Hi All,

Just a quick one, My second book 'Take the Darkness and Give us the Light' has been out for around a month or maybe two. It's doing well in sales and the reviews, thank god, don't mention spelling and grammar, so paying those editors and proofreaders was well worth it! It only have seven reviews currently and i need at least 15 to get some good Amazon love.
