Adventure in England: Stonehenge

So i was staying with Vicky and her Dad in Winchester, Winchester is a fantastic old village with some awesome stuff of it's own i'll be writing about at some point. Anyway it's quite close to Stonehenge so we decide to go an have a look. I don't know much about it, other than it's very old and amazing because it's impossible.

We got in the canvas covered landy and drove the two or so hours to the stones. It's a long drive and in true English fashion we got caught in some traffic from hell where we got to crawl around a mile in thirty minutes. As we we're crawling along the A303 you could see it from the side. Slowly growing from the fog. It's a low structure across the fields. We drove past and past and had to walk back, across the fields to get to it.

There was a vistors centre and a ticket booth but we walked on past it, At the stone, there was a helpful man who asked for tickets but we said we didnt have any. So we we're guide to a nearby field to look. So we ended up standing about a metre away from the paying people and looking at 'Stonehenge'

It's one of those places that people drive past again and again, because it's just there. It's hard to spend much time at the stones, because they are indeed just stones, but the idea of them really gets stuck in your mind. Australia has a lot of natural history, lots of ancient trees and mountains but this is both man made and nature in one. The stones that make the structure are old and look it. It's a shame you can't touch them anymore because it seems like they would be cold to the touch. The structure is so strange as well. It's not that it was built so many hundreds of years ago, by people who shouldn't have had cranes and forklifts, but why. Why did they both building this monster structure in an empty field.

If you're near this place you should have a look. You can avoid the 17 pound ticket if you're willing to walk. If you go at sunset (4ish!) you'll get some great snaps. Again it's not a place you'll spend all day, but you will spend a lot of time afterwards thinking about it.

Promo swapping - indy authors helping each other

It's funny i've never really got along well with other writers. I've been to a few meet up groups for this kind of thing when starting out and honestly i fucking hate people giving me opinions on my work, who haven't actually bought it. I never really though i'd get to the point where i would have mates who we're also doing what i'm doing. People who know what i am sayiung when i'm discussing if ingram or KDP is better.

So my friend Caz has brought out a great book called ''Creeping Shadow' and it's been awesome for me because she has done it though KDP, done her free days and done her print book through create space. Where as i use Ingram mostly and KDP only for the first book, so i can do free days when the second book is out.

So i was thinking of how my first book got around 4k downloads and a lot of my readers would like her stuff too, I could blog about her book but no one reads my blog, but 4,000 people did read my book. So i've re-released my book and now on the very back page it has a promo for hers, and another guy i like called Micheal DeAngelo. It's a test. I want to see if indy authors could put in promos of others work and do a kind of swap and thus get more sales. If it works i'll let you know. Also make sure if you want to do this, you get an Amazon Affilates account, so you get 8% on any sale you refer to them! helping has perks!

If you're a writer in a similar dark vein as me and want to do a possible promo swap, get in touch, my second book comes out in a few days.

Take the Body and Give me the Rest: Book 1

Seth stood and watched the nightmare creature as it tore its past master into bloody shreds and tried not to let the gripping fear show on his face. He could feel the man's life force, his memories, his talents and hard won skills filling his own mind and body, turning him into something much more than the lowly soldier he'd been just mere moments before.

Take the Darkeness and Give us the Light : Book 2

A sound fills the Wolverns ears, familiar, yet one that never should not exist in this place of endless night  and cold. The sound, the boys heartbeat, rang out loudly like a dinner bell calling all of the hungry creatures of this place to the feast. It had finally found one it could work with, one that had enough enemies to keep it satisfied, but now he was on the wrong side of things and in danger of being taken away. The Wolvern began to run towards the sound, it knew there were much worse and older things than the dead here, things even it avoided, they too would be waking from long sleep and starting the hunt. It just hoped Seth could stay alive until it arrived.

Book Launch: Melbourne: Take the Body and Give Me the Rest

So i quit my job and today is the first day of freedom and i get my book delivery! such good timing. Now i have fifty copies of my book and i think my mum will probably only buy around five, hence a book launch. If you live in Melbourne and want to have a drink with me to celebrate feel free to come on down.

It will be a low key event because it's a school night, but FAD is an awesome place to have a few quit ones anyway and i won't ramble on too much! cheers.

audio books

So a guy emails me and says you should do audio books. Quick check, apparently they are great and everyone loves them. One visit to Allens music and a mic later and i'm starting to do it. Anyone listen to audio books? i think its sounding ok but i want a few weeks to practice and then some people who actually listen to them to give some opinions. cheers

Second and third books

So I've been wondering what to do and thought I would just ask people. With this series I have indeed. Already written the second and third part. Number two is very close to perfect I'm just taking a lot more time in getting a million people to proof read it so I can avoid past mistakes. The thing I want to know, as a new writer is it better just get all three up as fast as I possibly can, or is it better to delay for say six months between each one and do proper launches and all that stuff? Thoughts?

Beta-readers

Hi all,

Not sure if many people read this but the book is getting printed very soon and i want to finally put to bed the bad grammar and spelling that have haunted this first release. I had it edited but clearly i need proof reading which i'm also paying for. A lot of great people who have read this book have a good eye for this stuff and i would love any beta-readers who can help me to step forward, i'd love to have each book proof read by like ten people. free copies of ebooks and print books as reward and my huge thanks, because clearly i need help in this department. just send me an email.
